Oh wow summer in Brisbane you are a makeup challenge!  I purposely didn’t schedule a DIY makeup workshop for summer as I just thought how can anyone wear makeup in summer here but of course we do and I feel like I’ve found a few little tricks to make it work.  So I’ll let you in on them here…

The challenge is to find a foundation that doesn’t slip off and I’ve found a few options and eeeek it may be time to eat my hat a little bit.  If you’ve been following me for a while you may remember when I used to bang on about not wearing powder.  I’m about to take it all back because now I have found and fallen in love with natural makeup I have now seen the light!  What’s the difference?  Natural Mineral Foundations do not contain talc is that’s no chalky, caking, or ghostly finish to your makeup and most of all non-comedogenic that means- it’s not going to clog your pores.

But First Prep:

Start with a base of either a primer or an SPF if you are going to be out in the sun this will help create a barrier to the skin as well as add hydration and even out the skin making for a better and smoother foundation application.  The Kylie’s primer reminds me a little bit of the MAC Prep and Prime but without the added nasties of course or if I’m out in the sun I go for the Wot Not Anti ageing SPF30 pressed into and all over my skin.

Here’s my top three Summer Foundations:

Kylie’s Professional: this is a loose mineral powder foundation which you can use in multi-use ways (mixing it up with a bit of face oil makes theee most beautiful liquid foundation) plus the shade range is really good.  Just prep your skin first with a bit of primer or the moisturiser of your choice then apply all over the skin with your buffing brush.  This product builds really well so anywhere you need added coverage just apply in a buffing or pressing motion to add more coverage.  It gives you a really lovely soft focus finish to the skin and I usually set the makeup with a spritz of setting spray to keep my skin feeling supple and giving it a bit of a fresh finish.  Heres a few of my faves from Ere Perez & Alyssum Alchemy.

Powder that doesn’t cake or clog your pores!?

InikaAnother loose powder foundation it has water resistant properties that really help in keeping it on throughout a hot summer day plus it is SPF 25.  I like to apply my SPF as my primer underneath and then apply this foundation all over my skin with my custom buffing brush.  This makes sure I’m fully protected through the day.  It’s really great for sensitive skins as well if you are prone to beakouts, which I find is more common in the summer, you may want to give this a try.

Gemma Vendetta: If you can’t go without your normal liquid foundation (I know it’s taken me a while to get over it too) I highly recommend the pressed mineral foundations which remind me of my old faithful’s from MAC.  Gemma describes these powders as SWEATPROOF…yes please!  You can use these as a foundation as is just apply with a kabuki brush or my signature buffing brush all over the face or this is also perfect to set your liquid foundation.  Because its pressed its super easy to pop in your handbag and reapply throughout the day if you need it.  It’s also got SPF25!!   No cakey finishes and it looks BEAUTIFUL on the skin.  There’s 5 different tones and I also love the bronzer/blusher.

Finally if you like to finish the skin with a a bit of highlight and contour definitely check out the Sculpt & Glow Contour Duo….such a great buy!  Fab wee palette to have in your makeup bag which also has a really lovely highlighter in it too….you will use it every day.
